Bootlace 2.1 has been released so update now! - This release is the culmination of months of work and is only possible thanks to CPICH and Patrick Wildt (Bluerise).

This release marks a significant milestone, you can now install iDroid in entirety without the need of a computer!

Under the OpeniBoot tab you are able to install OpeniBoot, upgrade or remove it and configure an already installed OpeniBoot. Your device will be patched on first launch to allow the NOR to be flashed under iOS (This is a one off process - with patches thanks to CPICH & Bluerise).

OpeniBoot version 0.1.2 or earlier will be ignored by Bootlace and overwritten with the latest version that is Bootlace 2.1 compatible (0.1.3).

Supported Devices/iOS versions (Not including GM seeds)

DUE TO AN UNFORSEEN LEGAL ISSUE, IPT1G IS NOT SUPPORTED IN THIS RELEASE - PLEASE WAIT FOR AN ANNOUNCEMENT & Bootlace 2.1.1.

iPhone 2G

iPhone 3G

Jailbreaks

IF YOUR DEVICE/IOS VERSION/JAILBREAK IS NOT LISTED, THEN IT IS NOT SUPPORTED.

There is a known issue with iOS4.1 and Redsn0w 0.9.6b2. Please use 0.9.6b1 or wait for a fix.

Downloads

Bootlace can be found in Cydia in the APT repo:

Bootlace will hopefully be available in one of the community repos soon.

If you have any questions, or need support, please post in the bootlace board, and not to this topic!

Nice one, guys :).
I'll run a check on 4.2 as soon as the public release comes out. Got it on at the minute but the jailbreak causes some screen glitching issues (usable, but annoying!).

Bootlace won't work with 4.2 as it will require a new set of kernel patches which we haven't done yet.

Nice work! just gonna test it out on my 3G now :)
one recommendation that I may make is the option to choose custom openiboots (such as iX and PSFreedom ones) for install as well as the official one, would be a nice addition to have imho :)

I just tried to use it on iPhone 3G 3.1.3 with pwnagetool JB. But it gives me an error "OpeniBoot is nor currently compatible with iOS 3.1.3"

No point as my next project is to make OpeniBoot configurable with menu options so 'custom' openiboot builds will no longer be needed.

Sorry we missed a tiny bit in the server-side plist. Re-launch the app and try again, it should work now.

Hi,

I install Bootlace on a 3G with ios 4.1 JB by redsn0W 0.9.6b2 and when I launch Bootlace I got this error message :

Quote
Kernel does not match any compatible jailbreaks. Jailbreak with redsn0w or PwnageTool and try again

Quote

This was a last minute fix for Redsn0w 0.9.6b2 as dev team changed something compared to beta 1. As such I forgot to make an MD5 of the patched kernel. I will try and make one now however if you're capable then getting me the MD5 of /System/Library/Caches/com.apple.kernelcaches/kernelcache would be a lot quicker than I can do it.

Ok the issue isn't quite what I thought it was. Can you MD5 the kernelcache please? You may need the md5sum utility from coreutils if doing this on your device. Can you also tell me what options you ticked when jailbreaking with redsn0w? Thanks.

Just to check, this is an iPhone 3G, not an iPod Touch 3rd gen?

thanks, used redsnow beta 2 over snowbreeze.. the md5 of kernelcache is A47A78FFC81E8C6073C822661285E759 (but the last change on this file was 23 semptember) I don't think it will work after your patch..  :-\

would restoring and trying 4.0.2 work with a older redsn0w work around this error?

I jailbreaked with redsn0w beta 1 over my jailbreak and when I launch bootlace, it begun to download kernel but I'm stuck at this step since 30 min.

Try jailbreaking using Redsn0w 0.9.6b1 over the top, no need to restore. If that fails, restore and use b1.

This usually depends on your internet connection. It's a 4MB file so may take a while on some connections. You can always re launch Bootlace though.

On firmware 4.1? If you used msft_guy's pwnagetool bundle there's no support. Use official dev team Pwnagetool or redsn0w.

Curl should be in the default repository, telesphoreo. Have you removed this? Or perhaps when refreshing sources it failed to contact the server?

SIM Pin support is not implemented in the current release of iDroid, we are working on it, we have partially working support in our source repos, but there is something I need to fix before we can release it.

WiFi does work but is a bit tempremental, its laggy for a lot of reasons, the main one being a complete lack of GPU acceleration but anyway.

probably your openiboot is hidden.. you must run oibc from linux or mac (with usb) and type:

setenv opib-hide-menu false
saveenv
reboot

now you have the graphical mode  :D

Thanks for all your great work on this :)

I've just installed Bootlace 2.1 and used it to do a fresh install of both OpeniBoot and iDroid. When I boot to iDroid, it gets stuck on:

Code: [Select]
radio: reading baseband nvram...done
I've had iDroid 1.0.3 working before now - but have since upgraded to iOS4.1 and did not reinstall OpeniBoot after the upgrade. I deleted my old iDroid files before using Bootlace.

Any ideas what I might need to do to fix this?

iPhone 3G, iOS4.1, jailbroke with redsn0w 0.9.6b1 iirc

could u explain it a little , does this method of re-jailbraking erase contacts , music , apps ? cuz u have to make a custom ipsw and re-jailbreak with beta 1 if u want to keep the unlock , right ?

Its usually saved into the NVRAM so even after DFU it will still be there.  You really have to run OIB console from Linux/Mac.

Doesn't matter. It's also a technical one but will be resolved soon.

could u explain it a little , does this method of re-jailbraking erase contacts , music , apps ? cuz u have to make a custom ipsw and re-jailbreak with beta 1 if u want to keep the unlock , right ?

This won't overwrite any user data. Just untick Cydia when running it.

Hey, any ideas if there is going to be an
iPhone 4 release? Thanks!

Not for the forseeable future. OpeniBoot is still being ported.

When will we see Market place on iDroid?

You won't. It's illegal to redistibute the Google Apps and Market on non-authorized devices.

I installed Bootlace on my 3g with 4.0.  It was jailbroken using Pwnage tool.  on first boot it patched the kernel but when I try to install OpeniBoot I get an error that the "kernelcache appears to be incorrectly patched.  Reinstall Bootlace."  I removed Bootlace and reinstalled it and same issue.

Ideas?

What's the MD5 of your /System/Library/Caches/com.apple.kernelcaches/kernelcache? md5sum can be installed as part of the coreutils package in Cydia.

Ok the issue isn't quite what I thought it was. Can you MD5 the kernelcache please? You may need the md5sum utility from coreutils if doing this on your device. Can you also tell me what options you ticked when jailbreaking with redsn0w? Thanks.

Here is the md5 of kernelcache :

b1b8d05f403ce4236c89464d6b08d4fb

I only checked Install Cydia and enable battery percentage

I just selected option in Install Cydia, Disable Multitasking, Disable Wallpaper, Disable Bettery Percetange

We've already established there's an issue with Redsn0w 0.9.6b2, use b1 on wait for a fix.

The version of OpeniBoot on the homepage still lists 0.1.2. I want to change it, but I don't have wiki editing permissions. I understand why, to prevent vandalism of the site, but it should probably be updated by someone with those permissions.

It *is* possible to install openiboot 0.1.3 without bootlace at this point, right?

It hasnt been changed there, solely because nobody has had the time to compile the updates and distribute them! (Damn Bootlace!), I'll hopefully get some time to do it tonight, but yes you can install it manually :)

Are there any plans to support sn0wbreeze 2 (from ih8sn0w.com)? It's the only JB I can use on my windows box that allows me to keep my baseband unlock (my understanding is that it's basically a windows version of PwnageTool). Besides that, I am very excited to see some great progress. Thanks :)

I should also mention that I am currently running 4.1 on my iPhone 3G that has been jailbroken with sn0wbreeze.

today was the first day i install openiboot !!!
it worked at the begining but after a reboot of froyo it boots directly and only on console with a  Welcome to Open iBoot at the bottom, but i fixed it ( i have an iphone 2g 3.1.3)
if someone else have this isue just:
open the iphone
then just load oibc like you would to install open iboot (try searching this forum on how to)
then type in setenv opib-hide-menu false
it will repeat something
then type saveenv
it will say saving enviroment
once thats done type reboot and vialo boot menu is back

after this every thing worked like a charm soo a big THANK YOU is legitime ;D
now just waiting for the next idroid release XD

If your 'custom' firmware includes a modified kernelcache then thats where the issue is :)

SIM PIN is bugged.
WiFi is alo Bugged.

Yes it is slow.

All these are things we already know, so don't worry nothing is wrong with your phone. The Dev team has still to fix these but don't expect them soon (like in 1 week or 1 month).

You guys might want to change this part of your FAQ (on the Wiki) because the link you give for installing 'gapps' does not work.

Quote
Android Market and Google Apps

Q: Okay, how then can I install Android Market and Google Apps?

It looks like it worked on your previous version of iDroid, but since this (Froyo 2.2) update it no longer boots, even if you follow the directions. I tried it more than once.  No good.

Best to remove it to save yourself a few headaches.

Nope that guide was for Froyo (2.2). It just doesn't work properly. Also even if you did get it working, you won't get market working anyways so don't bother.

But thanks for pointing it out, I'll edit the FAQ to warn people to not bother installing Android Market or GApps since it won't work anyways.

Actually, I found a tutorial to get Market working, but my main reason for wanting the gapps was so I could install other apps (like Apps Installer) so I can put apps on the "sd card" and install them manually (like Facebook and other apps from my legal gPhone).

Either way, thanks for updating the FAQ.  I was almost certain you would have been inundated with requests or emails from people bothering you guys about how to do it.

Hello, could somebody help me out with this please?

I am trying this on my jailbroken iPhone 2G 3.1.2 with custom firmware.

I have successfully installed Bootlace 2.1 and then OpeniBoot. When I tried installing iDroid 1.0.3,  the wifi
always acted up and I got an error message saying the iDroid was unable to be downloaded.

So I was thinking can I manually put the iDroid 1.0.3 already downloaded from somewhere to a certain directory
on the iphone via iphone browser so the Openiboot can locate it and install iDroid from there? Thanks in advance
for the help.

Bootlace doesnt need to back up the NOR, when installing manually the entire NOR is opened for writing, this is why we suggest a backup for that, but with Bootlace, it only flashes certain parts of the NOR, therefore negating the need for a backup

oooooolaaaa ihave found the way that there is no need to connect  bootlace to download the latest idroid form the internet is simple ist u need the bootlace 2.1 on ur iphone and now just download the latest idroid form the http://idroid.nickpack.com/iDroid/official/iDroid-Project/3G/ on ur computer i m sure that downloading on computer is faster then downloading on bootlace on iphone
and now put the iDroid-1.0.3-MoJo-3G.tar.gz in the private/var/documents/bootlace
and open the bootlace and go to idroid tab in bootlace bootlace will check the latest version of the idroid on internet and just simple hit the install button and woolaaaa installation starts without downloading the idroid from internet

Did anyone else see Geohot calling out Bootlace devs on Twitter?

Here's the deal: if @iDroidProject released a update to the Bootlace app, for iPod touch 2G users by tomorrow, I will release a unlock

It's a fake because Geohot does not have a Twitter account.

Regarding the slow downloading of the kernel, I found that after jailbreaking my wifi settings were all erased, so i had no wifi.

Make sure your wifi is enabled before starting Bootlace!!

Are you working on support for iOS 4.2 now that Apple has released it?

Hold your horses it only just came out... We won't be releasing anything until the jailbreak tools are updated, redsn0w and PwnageTool.

I'm still having the same issue with Bootlace 2.1 as I did with 2.0.4. Every time I try running, it goes to the Bootlace splash screen, quickly flashes to "Checking compatibility..." and then quits. I've tried reinstalling, as well as removing it and installing again via Cydia. Every time, it says Data used is 0.0MB before installing. Is that correct, or perhaps evidence of a problem?

I am having issues with bootlace crashing on downloading kernel (wireless is on). I have a ipod touch 1G with 3.1.3 and jailbreaked with redsnow 0.9.4.
My hardware is supported since bootlace 2.1.1 and I have installed 2.1.3-1 from cydia. Does anyone have an idea of what may be wrong?
Thanks

Ps..ok figured out that this is the wrong place to ask. I actually managed by reading the correct posts.
Thanks anyway

Some questions:

1. Why no 3G DATA?
2. How to reboot from Android back to iOS? (quick boot to be included next release?)
3. Market?

redsn0w 0.9.2 on a iPhone 2G 3.1.3

Have you tried other jailbreaks like a more advanced redsn0w?

I do this by pressing shutdown button and middle button at the same time mostly 10 seconds, which shuts the devide off;
Then pressing the shutdown button again will start it and send you back to the boot screen.

That is called a hard reset and doing this many times will damage your iPhone file system that may require a DFU.

Why do people not read the User Manual? There's a link to it on the main forum page.
