iPhone 4
« on: June 24, 2010, 07:18:12 PM »
I know everyone was just waiting to see how long it was going to take for this question.

After the iPhone 4 is jailbroke what are the chances that the we are going to be able to easily port over the iDroid, and OpeniBoot to the new platform?

Just thought i would get this started now.

About as long as it will take for 3GS I suppose, but only if an exploit is found in either bootrom or LLB.

Didnt the dev team say that they already were able to jailbreak the iPhone 4 the same way that they exploited the 3gs?

They can probably jailbreak iOS4 on all devices, but the exploit needs to be very early in the boot chain for this project to be able to use it. Basically, just any jailbreak-enabling exploit won't do for us, it needs to be something before iOS boots and preferably as early as the first or second bootloader (bootrom or LLB, respectively).

posixninja confirmed yesterday that they had found a kernel level exploit, shouldn't be too soon before we see a boot one.

just because theres an exploit in the kernel doesnt mean that there is one in the boot sequence, just hope ones there and hope someone finds it, also just because the 3gs hasnt had a boot exploit doesnt mean the iPhone4 doesnt

The early 3gs models have a bootloader vulnerable to the 24kpwn exploit. Just ask Rekoil

Now that the iPhone 4 has been jailbroken at bootrom level will it be quite easy to port iDroid across?

Well the sad thing is it will be a tethered boot at best (meaning a restart may remove OIB).
But the good thing is it can possibly be ported.

Maybe someone with great skills and an iPhone 4 (like Planetbeing) can port it.

I wouldn't say easy, but definitely possible. However, at the moment, unless we figure out how to chainload linux from iOS kernel (which should theoretically be possible), it will be a tethered boot.

Ah, thanks for the info - Can someone explain what tethered boot means as i have jailbroken 4.1 iphone 4 with Limera1n and i can turn off my device and switch it back on without having to make sure it is connect via the cable to the PC and it still works fine.

My understanding of tethered boot meant that?

Tethered boot as in you would need your computer to load iDroid.
