4.1 is out now (with the jailbreak out soon hopefully) and game center on most devices with 4.1, I reckon it would be a good idea to have a topic where we can post our own and find other forum members game center ID's to, well, challenge people in game center i guess :P

I'll start off, my ID is: iPwnUK

P.S, make sure if your downloading it to get the 0.02 version, as 0.01 is iPad only

Off topic / underlining

isn't it funny how there is a built in command for underlining, but whenever you try to use it, it changes the '|_|' (the actual letter, not the symbols i used instead for it not to change it ;)) in the BBCode to 'you' as a way to prevent text speech :P

iPhone 3G / Remap power button to actual power button
« on: May 23, 2010, 03:06:12 PM »
I was wondering if there was a way to remap the power button on the iPhone to the android power button? i was thinking of remapping the current use of the power buton (back) to the volume-up button as i dont really use it for calls, and can call still from opening up the phone app and clicking the name, and the menu button still shows other options while in call (such as end call).
I think this would be useful as a proper method to shut-down the phone while in android and *possibly* enter recovery mode, but that isn't a nessesary feature.

Thanks in advance,

General discussion / *Fixed* Installing .APK files
« on: May 21, 2010, 01:17:01 AM »
Is there any way to install .apk files to android without using the store?
I use 0.1c and therefore didn't have the store (or many other apps for that matter) on the phone, and was wondering if there was any way to install the apps?

I tried the 'adb install <File Location>/<File>.apk' method but with no result, the file apparently copies over, but then just leaves the next line as '#' as if it wants me to add another command, but none work :/

EDIT: I realise that this is still in alpha and that there is still a lot of work to be done, but i was just wondering if there was a way.

EDIT 2: After some extra searching and testing, i figured out how to install apps onto android:
Mainly from nitestarzz post (nitestarzz post), edited to fit purpose of this topic and to make post more clear to follow:

Boot up into ANDROID.

After connected to your wifi router, Extract the .apk file you wish to install to a memorable location.

Connect to your phone via: (with 'XXX' being your IP adress)
> adb connect XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX:5555

after connected successfully go into adb shell:
> adb shell

remount the system as read-write:
> mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system

exit the shell :
> exit

push the .apk file you wish to install to /system/app:
> adb push /directory/of/file/<apk file name>.apk /system/app

connect back to the adb shell:
>adb shell

change the permission of the file:
> chmod 6755 /system/app/<apk file name>.apk

exit the shell:
> exit

then finally reboot your phone through:
1. the 'terminal emulator' in 'dev tools' with the commands 'su' to enable super user, then 'reboot'

2. by doing a factory data reset in settings > SD card & phone settings > Factory data reset (this wont actually delete anything (that i know of) dont worry)

3. or before you exit the sdb shell (or simply open it again if you have already closed it), type the command 'reboot' (without quotation marks)

My first guide so just ask if anything is un-clear  :D

EDIT 3: Tried many different .apk's for the market (vending.apk) app, but none have worked so far, any suggestions, or if anyone gets it to work somehow please say!

EDIT 4: After looking through all of nitestarzz post's comments, i managed to get the Gapps to work, follow his instructions to get them all working. only use my guide if you wish to install non-market apps, or if you cannot get market apps to install.
